Rear Sub Frame: Removal

  1. Release the parking brake.
  2. Using the Subaru Select Monitor, go to the brake maintenance mode according to the display screen. <Ref. to BRAKE MAINTENANCE MODE , OPERATION, Parking Brake System.>
    NOTE: For detailed operation procedures, refer to "Application help".
  3. Disconnect the ground terminal from battery sensor. <Ref. to BATTERY , NOTE, Repair Contents.>
  4. Lift up the vehicle, and then remove the rear wheels.
  5. Remove the rear exhaust pipe.
    • H4 engine model: <Ref. to REMOVAL , Rear Exhaust Pipe.>
    • H6 engine model: <Ref. to REMOVAL , Rear Exhaust Pipe.>
  6. Remove the propeller shaft assembly. <Ref. to REMOVAL , Propeller Shaft.>
  7. Remove the electronic parking brake harness. <Ref. to REMOVAL , Parking Brake Actuator.>
  8. Remove the harness clamp and bolts, and remove the rear ABS wheel speed sensor from the housing assembly - rear axle.
    CAUTION:
    • Be careful not to damage the sensor.
    • Do not apply excessive force to the sensor harness.
    • Leave the sensor harness clamp (white arrow) on the vehicle side.
    • Sedan model

    • OUTBACK model

  9. Remove the disc brake assembly - rear. <Ref. to REMOVAL , Rear Disc Brake Assembly.>
  10. Remove the brake hose bracket and disc brake assembly - rear.
  11. Remove the sub rear harness from the clamp.
    1. Press in the clamp claw (a).
    2. Remove the clamp band, and then remove the sub rear harness.

  12. Remove the sensor assembly - headlight beam leveler. (Model with auto headlight beam leveler) <Ref. to REMOVAL , Rear Height Sensor.>
  13. Remove the fuel tank protector.
    • H4 engine model: <Ref. to REMOVAL , Fuel Tank Protector.>
    • H6 engine model: <Ref. to REMOVAL , Fuel Tank Protector.>
  14. Remove the rear sub frame assembly.
    1. Remove the bolts and nuts from the lower side of rear shock absorber COMPL - rear.

    2. Support the sub frame assembly using a transmission jack.
      CAUTION: The rear sub frame assembly is heavy. Make sure that it is horizontally-supported.
    3. Remove the bolt, and remove the left and right sub frame supports and the rear sub frame support.
    4. Remove the rear sub frame assembly.
    CAUTION: While checking there is no dragging of harness and wire, lower it slowly with a transmission jack.

  15. As necessary, remove each part from the rear sub frame assembly.
