Seat Belt Warning System: Inspection

CAUTION:

Before handling the airbag system components, refer to "CAUTION" of "General Description" in "AIRBAG SYSTEM". <Ref. to CAUTION , General Description.>
When inspecting the airbag main harness, disconnect the driver's seat airbag module connector and passenger's seat airbag module connector for safety reasons.
When inspecting the airbag rear harness, disconnect the side airbag module connector, seat cushion airbag module connector, curtain airbag module connector and seat belt pretensioner connector for safety reasons.

Trouble symptom:

Driver's side seat belt warning light does not illuminate or it remains illuminating.
Warning buzzer does not beep.

Step	Check	Yes	No
1 CHECK FUNCTION. Sit on the driver's seat and passenger's seat and disconnect the seat belts of the both. Turn the ignition switch to ON (engine OFF). Check the illumination of the driver's seat belt warning light in the combination meter, and the passenger's seat belt warning light in the warning box, and the sounding of the buzzer.	Do the driver's warning light and passenger's warning light blink and the buzzer sound while blinking?	Go to step 2.	Go to step 9.
2 CHECK FUNCTION. Wait until the buzzer sound stops in step 1. (For approximately six seconds after starting sounding) Connect and disconnect the seat belts of the driver's and passenger's. Check the illumination of the driver's seat belt warning light in the combination meter and the passenger's seat belt warning light in the warning box.	Do the seat belts warning light illuminate ←→ go off according to the operation?	Go to step 3.	Go to step 5.
3 CHECK FUNCTION. Wait until the buzzer sound stops in step 2. (For approximately six seconds after starting sounding) Start the engine, and set the vehicle speed at 20 km/h (12 MPH) or more. Check the seat belt warning lights of the driver's and the passenger's, and if the warning buzzer sounds.	Do the driver's warning light and passenger's warning light blink and the buzzer sound while blinking?	Go to step 4.	Go to step 10.
4 CHECK DATA MONITOR. Check for poor contact of the connectors between the airbag control module and the seat belt buckle switch LH. Sit in the driver's seat. Select «Data monitor» in the combination meter using Subaru Select Monitor, and display the data of «Belt Buckle Switch LH». NOTE: For detailed operation procedures, refer to "Application help". Fasten and detach the driver's side seat belt buckle, and read the data of the seat belt switch. <Ref. to OPERATION , Read Current Data.>	Does the seat belt switch display change Belted ←→ Unbelted according to the operation of the seat belt buckle?	Go to step 6.	Go to step 5.
5 CHECK BUCKLE SWITCH LH. Perform the check in accordance with the diagnostic procedure DTC B1656 of the occupant detection system. <Ref. to DTC B1656 FRONT BUCKLE SWITCH LH FAILURE , Diagnostic Chart with Trouble Code.>	Is the inspection result normal?	Go to step 6.	Repair or replace with new parts according to DTC B1656.
6 CHECK DATA MONITOR. Sit in the passenger's seat. Select «Data monitor» in the combination meter using Subaru Select Monitor, and display the data of «Belt Buckle Switch RH». Fasten and detach the passenger's side seat belt buckle, and read the data of the seat belt switch. <Ref. to OPERATION , Read Current Data.>	Does the seat belt switch display change Belted ←→ Unbelted according to the operation of the seat belt buckle?	Go to step 8.	Go to step 7.
7 CHECK AIRBAG SYSTEM AND OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM. Perform the check in accordance with the diagnostic procedure DTC B1650 of the airbag system. <Ref. to DTC B1650 OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM MALFUNCTION , Diagnostic Chart with Trouble Code.>	Is the inspection result normal?	Go to step 8.	Repair or replace with new parts according to DTC B1650.
8 CHECK BUCKLE SWITCH RH. Perform the check in accordance with the diagnostic procedure DTC B1655 of the occupant detection system. <Ref. to DTC B1655 FRONT BUCKLE SWITCH RH FAILURE , Diagnostic Chart with Trouble Code.>	Is the inspection result normal?	Go to step 9.	Repair or replace with new parts according to DTC B1655.
9 CHECK AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE AND COMBINATION METER COMMUNICATION CIRCUIT. Perform the inspection according to the basic diagnostic procedure for LAN system. <Ref. to PROCEDURE , Basic Diagnostic Procedure.>	Is the inspection result normal?	Go to step 10.	Repair or replace with new parts according to DTC B16F1.
10 CHECK WARNING BOX POWER SUPPLY VOLTAGE. Disconnect the warning box connector. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Measure the voltage between the ignition power supply and the warning box. Connector & terminal (R353) No. 2 (+) - Chassis ground (-):	Is the voltage 10 V or more?	Go to step 11.	Check the harness for open or short between the fuse and the warning box.
11 CHECK WARNING BOX GROUND CIRCUIT. Turn the ignition switch to OFF. Measure the resistance between the warning box and chassis ground. Connector & terminal (R353) No. 5 - Chassis ground:	Is the resistance less than 10 Ω?	Go to step 12.	Repair or replace the harness.
12 CHECK HARNESS BETWEEN WARNING BOX AND COMBINATION METER. Disconnect the harness of the warning box and the combination meter. Measure the resistance between warning box and combination meter. Connector & terminal (R353) No. 7 - (i10) No. 12:	Is the resistance less than 10 Ω?	Go to step 13.	Repair or replace the harness.
13 CHECK COMMUNICATION STATUS BETWEEN WARNING BOX AND COMBINATION METER. Remove the warning box, and install a properly operating warning box (new warning box). Connect the connector and then turn the ignition switch to ON.	Is the warning box properly displayed?	Replace the warning box.	Replace the combination meter case assembly.
