Inspection steps

NOTE: Read the freeze frame data using the SSM3. A part of the engine running conditions under which the engine trouble occurred is recorded in the freeze frame data, which is useful for troubleshooting.
  1. Fuel leakage check (visual inspection)
    1. Check for fuel leakage.

Criteria: There is no fuel leakage

NG: Repair or replace fuel leaking components

      OK: Go to next step

  2. Read DTC
    1. Connect the SSM3 to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Follow the SSM3 on-screen instructions to check the DTC. (Refer to CHECKING/CLEARING DTC )

      Result

      Result Go to
      P0087 is output A
DTCs other than P0087 are output B
NOTE: If any DTCs other than P0087 are output, troubleshoot them first.

B: To corresponding DTC chart (refer to DTC TABLE )

      A: Go to next step

  3. Has the engine ever stopped because it ran out of gas?
    1. Ask your customer if the engine ever has stopped due to lack of fuel.

      Result

      Result Go to
      Engine never has stalled A
      Engine has stalled before B

B: The DTC was recorded due to a lack of fuel situation during driving that occurred in the past

      A: Go to next step

  4. Reading the SSM3 data (Fuel Press)
    1. Connect the SSM3 to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the following menu items using the SSM3. [Inspection of BRZ]/[Each System Check]/[Engine Control System]/[Current Data Display & Save]/[Fuel Press].
    4. Inspect a change in fuel pressure when the engine is raced.

      Result

      Result Go to
      Fuel pressure varies A
Fuel pressure does not rise B
Fuel pressure does not vary C

      B: Go to Step  7.

C: Replacement of the fuel pressure sensor (Refer to REMOVAL )

      A: Go to next step

  5. Perform SSM3 [System Operation Check Mode] ([Control the Fuel Pump Duty])
    1. Connect the SSM3 to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Select the following menu items using the SSM3. [Inspection of BRZ]/[Each System Check]/[Engine Control System]/[System Operation Check Mode]/[Control the Fuel Pump Duty]
    4. In system operation check mode, check operation noise of the fuel pump (low-pressure side) with 80 % of fuel pump duty cycle.

      Criteria: Operating sound is heard.

NG: Inspection of fuel pump control system (low-pressure side) (Refer to FUEL PUMP CONTROL SYSTEM )

      OK: Go to next step

  6. Fuel pressure inspection (low-pressure side)
NOTE: Check the fuel pressure (low-pressure side). (Refer to FUNCTION INSPECTION )

NG: Replacement of fuel pressure regulator assembly (Refer to DISASSEMBLY )

    OK: Go to next step

  7. Fuel leakage check (high-pressure fuel system)
    1. Connect the SSM3 to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the following menu items using the SSM3. [Inspection of BRZ]/[Each System Check]/[Engine Control System]/[Current Data Display & Save]/[Fuel Rail Pressure]
    4. Check a fuel pressure variation when the engine is stopped.
NOTE: After turning IG to OFF, immediately turn the ignition switch to ON.

      Result

      Result Go to
      Fuel pressure suddenly decreases A
Fuel pressure stays almost constant or varies gradually B

      B: Go to Step  9.

      A: Go to next step

  8. Fuel pump assembly (high-pressure side) unit inspection
    1. Perform fuel pump assembly (high-pressure side) unit inspection. (Refer to UNIT INSPECTION )

NG: Replacement of fuel pump assembly (high-pressure side) (Refer to FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY (FA20/HIGH FUEL PRESSURE) )

      OK: Go to next step

  9. Injector driver replacement
    1. Replace the injector driver. (Refer to INJECTOR DRIVER (FA20) )

      Next

  10. Clear DTC
    1. Connect the SSM3 to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Follow the SSM3 on-screen instructions to clear the DTCs. (Refer to CHECKING/CLEARING DTC )
    4. Turn the ignition switch to OFF, and wait for 30 seconds.

      Next

  11. Perform test drive for operation check
    1. Perform test drive. (refer to "TEST DRIVE " under "Description of functions")
WARNING: When performing this driving test, always observe the applicable traffic laws such as the speed limit.
    2. Check the results.

      Result

      Result Go to
