SERVICE INFORMATION
When diagnosing the CAN system on a 2010-11 Legacy and Outback, before doing CAN communication circuit checks, you must wait for the system to go into "sleep mode" (or sleep status). This information can be found in the Service Manual under "CAN Communication Circuit Check".
To set the sleep status:
- Turn the ignition switch to OFF, stop operating the keys or switches, and wait for one minute or more with all doors and trunk/rear gate closed.
- For the models with keyless access, keep the access key 2 meters or more away from vehicle. (NOTE: this step applies to non-U.S. market vehicles equipped with "Smart Key".)
