Code 24

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Subaru Forester. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . After repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light to verify system is functioning correctly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Disconnect connector AB3 from air bag control module. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect test harness "R" (98299FE030), connector 1R to connector AB3. See Figure. Connect negative battery cable and turn ignition on (engine off). Measure voltage between ground and test harness "R", connector 2R, terminal No. 1. If voltage is less than 10 volts, replace air bag control module. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 20 seconds. Remove driver-side kick panel. Disconnect connectors AB1 and B31. See Figure. Connect test harness "M" (98299FE020), connector 2M to connector AB1. See Figure. Measure resistance between test harness "M", connector 5M, terminal No. 2 and test harness "R", connector 2R, terminal No. 1. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 megohms, replace air bag main harness and body harness, as a unit
  3. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "M", connector 5M, terminal No. 2. Measure resistance between ground and test harness "R", connector 2R, terminal No. 1. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace air bag main harness and body harness, as a unit
  4. Ensure ignition is off. Inspect fuse No. 11 located in joint box. See Fig 1. If fuse is blown, replace fuse. If fuse blows again, repair body harness. If fuse is okay, repair body harness.
