NOTE:
Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS . After repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light to verify system is functioning correctly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove driver-side air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect test harness "N" (98299SA000), connector 1N to upper clockspring connector AB31. See Figure & Figure . Connect Air Bag Resistor (98299PA040) to test harness "N", connector 2N. See Figure. Connect negative battery cable and turn ignition switch on (with engine off). If AIR BAG warning light turns off after 6 seconds, replace driver-side air bag module. If AIR BAG warning light does not turn off after 6 seconds, go to next step.
- Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 20 seconds. Disconnect test harness from connector AB31. Remove lower instrument panel cover and disconnect lower clockspring connectors AB2 and AB30. Connect test harness "F" (98299FC010), connector 1F to connector AB2. See Figure. Connect Air Bag Resistor to test harness "F", connector 3F. Connect negative battery cable and turn ignition on (engine off). If AIR BAG warning light turns off after 6 seconds, replace clockspring. See COMBINATION SWITCH/CLOCKSPRING under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If AIR BAG warning light does not turn off after 6 seconds, go to next step.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect negative battery cable and wait at least 20 seconds. Disconnect air bag resistor from connector 3F. Remove glove box and disconnect passenger-side air bag module connectors AB4 and AB27. Disconnect connector AB3 from air bag control module. See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Connect test harness "R" (98299FE030), connector 1R to connector AB3. See Figure. Connect negative battery cable and turn ignition on (engine off). Measure voltage between ground and test harness "R", connector 2R, terminal No. 2. Measure voltage between ground and test harness "R", connector 2R, terminal No. 4. If voltage is less than one volt, replace air bag control module. If voltage is more than one volt, replace air bag main harness and body harness, as a unit
