Valve Adjustment: 2.5L

NOTE: When the arrow mark (A) on left camshaft sprocket comes exactly to the top, No. 1 cylinder piston is brought to the top dead center of compression stroke.
  1. Set No. 1 cylinder piston to top dead center of compression stroke by rotating the crankshaft pulley clockwise using Crankshaft Pulley Wrench (499977100) . See Figure .
  2. CAUTION: Insert the thickness gauge in as horizontal a direction as possible with respect to the valve stem end face. See Figure . Adjust the exhaust valve clearances while lifting-up the vehicle. See VALVE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATION (2.0L & 2.5L)  table.
  3. Adjust the No. 1 cylinder valve clearance. Loosen the valve rocker nut and screw. Place suitable thickness gauge. While noting the valve clearance, tighten the valve rocker adjust screw. When the specified valve clearance is obtained, tighten the valve rocker nut to 7.2 ft. lbs (10 N.m). See Fig 1 .
  4. Ensure the valve clearances are within specifications. See VALVE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATION (2.0L & 2.5L)  table.
  5. Turn the crankshaft two complete rotations until No. 1 cylinder piston is again set to top dead center on compression stroke.
  6. Ensure the valve clearances are within specifications. If necessary, readjust the valve clearances.
  7. NOTE: Ensure to set the cylinder pistons to their respective top dead centers on compression stroke before adjusting valve clearances. To set No. 3, No. 2 and No. 4 cylinder pistons to their top dead centers on compression stroke, turn the crankshaft pulley clockwise 90 degrees at a time starting with arrow mark on left camshaft sprocket facing up. See Figure .
  8. Using similar adjustment procedures used for No. 1 cylinder, adjust No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 cylinder valve clearances.
