Automatic Transmission Assembly: Removal
- Set the vehicle on a lift.
- Open the front hood fully, and support with stay.
- Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
- Remove the air intake duct (Non-turbo model). See REMOVAL , Air Intake Duct.
- Remove the air cleaner case (Non-turbo model). See REMOVAL , Air Cleaner Case.
- Remove the air cleaner case stay (Non-turbo model).
- Remove the intercooler (Turbo model). See REMOVAL , Intercooler.
- Remove the front, center, rear exhaust pipes and the muffler (Non-turbo model). See REMOVAL , Front Exhaust Pipe, REMOVAL , Center Exhaust Pipe, REMOVAL , Rear Exhaust Pipe and REMOVAL , Muffler.
- Remove the center and rear exhaust pipes and the muffler (Turbo model). See REMOVAL

, Muffler.CAUTION: When removing the exhaust pipes, be careful each exhaust pipe does not drop out.
- Disconnect the following connectors.
- Transmission harness connector
- Transmission ground terminal
- Remove the starter. See REMOVAL , Starter.
- Install ST to torque converter clutch case.
ST 498277200 STOPPER SET
- Remove the pitching stopper.
- Separate the torque converter clutch from drive plate.
- Remove the service hole plug.
- Remove the bolts which hold torque converter clutch to drive plate.
- Rotate the engine using ST and remove other bolts.
CAUTION: Be careful not to drop the bolts into torque converter clutch housing.Turbo Model

Non-Turbo Model

- Remove the ATF level gauge.NOTE: Plug the opening to prevent entry of foreign particles into transmission fluid.
- Set the ST.
ST 41099AA000 ENGINE SUPPORT ASSY
- Remove the bolt which holds right upper side of transmission to engine.
- Lift up the vehicle.
- Remove the under cover.
- Remove the heat shield cover (if equipped)
- Drain the ATF to remove the ATF drain plug.
- Disconnect the ATF cooler hoses from pipes of transmission side, and remove the ATF level gauge guide.
- Remove the propeller shaft. See REMOVAL , Propeller Shaft.
- Remove the shift select cable. See REMOVAL , Select Cable.
- Disconnect the stabilizer link from transverse link.
- Remove the bolt securing ball joint of transverse link to housing.
- Remove the spring pins and separate front drive shafts from each side of the transmission.
- Remove the nuts which hold lower side of transmission to engine.
- Place the transmission jack under transmission.CAUTION: Make sure that the support plates of transmission jack don't touch the oil pan.
- Remove the transmission rear crossmember from vehicle.
- Remove the transmission.CAUTION: Move the transmission and torque converter as a unit away from engine.
- Separate the transmission assembly and rear cushion rubber.
