WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Subaru Outback, 2004 Subaru Legacy, and 2004 Subaru Baja. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS  . After repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light to verify system is functioning correctly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
  1. Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM  . Remove instrument panel lower cover and glove box. Disconnect lower clockspring connectors AB3 and AB8 and passenger-side air bag module connectors AB9 and AB10. See Figure . Disconnect air bag control module connector AB6. Connect connector AB6 to test harness I2 (98299FC010), connector 1I. See Figure . Measure resistance between test harness I2, connector 3I, terminals No. 1 and 3. If resistance is not between 750-1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is between 750-1000 ohms, replace air bag control module and go to step  19 . See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Measure resistance between ground and test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 1. If resistance is less than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is more than one megohm, replace air bag control module and go to step  19 . See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  3. Measure resistance between ground and test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is more than one megohm, replace air bag control module and go to step  19 . See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  4. Disconnect connector AB13 from left front subsensor. See Figure . Connect connector AB13 to test harness "H" (98299FA030), connector 1H. See Figure . Measure resistance between test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 3 and test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 5. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to step  8 .
  5. Measure resistance between test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 1 and test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 6. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, go to step  8 .
  6. Measure resistance between ground and test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to step  16 .
  7. Measure resistance between ground and test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 1. If resistance is less than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to step  16 .
  8. Disconnect connectors AB11 and AB12. See Figure . Connect connector AB11 to test harness "F" (98299FC010), connector 2F. See Figure . Measure resistance between test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 3 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 6. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, replace air bag main wiring harness and go to step  19 .
  9. Measure resistance between test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 1 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 5. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, replace air bag main wiring harness and go to step  19 .
  10. Measure resistance between ground and test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 3. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace air bag main wiring harness and go to step  19 .
  11. Measure resistance between ground and test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 1. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace air bag main wiring harness and go to step  19 .
  12. Connect connector AB12 to test harness "F", connector 1F. See Figure & Figure . Disconnect connector AB13 from left front subsensor. Connect connector AB13 to test harness "H", connector 1H. See Figure . Measure resistance between test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 5 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, replace left front subsensor harness and go to step  19 .
