Before proceeding, see AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
. After repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light to verify system is functioning correctly. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK
.
- Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Remove instrument panel lower cover and glove box. Disconnect lower clockspring connectors AB3 and AB8 and passenger-side air bag module connectors AB9 and AB10. See Figure . Disconnect air bag control module connector AB6. Connect connector AB6 to test harness I2 (98299FC041), connector 1I. See Figure . Measure resistance between test harness I2, connector 3I, terminals No. 2 and 4. If resistance is not between 750-1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is between 750-1000 ohms, replace air bag control module and go to step 19 . See AIR BAG CONTROL MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 2. If resistance is less than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is one megohm or more, replace air bag control module and go to step 19 .
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 4. If resistance is less than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is one megohm or more, replace air bag control module and go to step 19 .
- Disconnect connector AB16 from right front subsensor. See Figure . Connect connector AB16 to test harness "H" (98299FA030), connector 1H. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance between test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 2 and test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 5. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, go to step 8 .
- Measure resistance between test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 4 and test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 6. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to step 8 .
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 2. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 ohms or less, go to step 8 .
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 4. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is 10 ohms or more, go to step 16 .
- Disconnect connectors AB14 and AB15. See Figure . Connect connector AB14 to test harness "F", (98299FC010) connector 2F. See Figure . Measure resistance between test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 2 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 6. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, replace air bag main wiring harness and go to step 19 .
- Measure resistance between test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 4 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 5. If resistance is less than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is more than one megohm, replace air bag main wiring harness and go to step 19 .
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 2. If resistance is less than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is more than one megohm, replace air bag main wiring harness and go to step 19 .
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness I2, connector 3I, terminal No. 4. If resistance is more than one megohm, go to next step. If resistance is less than one megohm, replace air bag main wiring harness and go to step 19 .
- Connect connector AB15 to test harness "F", connector 1F. See Figure & Figure . Disconnect connector AB16 from right front subsensor. Connect connector AB16 to test harness "H", connector 1H. See Fig 1 . Measure resistance between test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 5 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 3. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, replace right front subsensor harness and go to step 19 .
- Measure resistance between test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 6 and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 4. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, replace right front subsensor harness and go to step 19 .
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 3. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace right front subsensor harness and go to step 19 .
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness "F", connector 3F, terminal No. 4. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace right front subsensor harness and go to step 19 .
- Connect right front subsensor to test harness "H", connector 2H. Measure resistance between test harness "H", connector 3H, terminals No. 3 and 4. If resistance is between 750-1000 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not between 750-1000 ohms, replace right front subsensor and go to step 19 .
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 3. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace right front subsensor and go to step 19 .
- Measure resistance between ground and test harness "H", connector 3H, terminal No. 4. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, replace right front subsensor and go to next step.
- Turn ignition off and disconnect negative battery terminal. Reconnect system components and activate air bag system. Clear diagnostic codes. See CLEARING CODES under DIAGNOSTICS. Check for normal air bag system operation. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK .
