Component Disassembly & Reassembly: MAINSHAFT: Reassembly

  1. Install 3rd drive gear, synchro ring, and 3rd-4th hub and sleeve assembly onto main shaft. Align groove on synchro ring with shifting insert. Press 4th needle bearing race onto shaft.
  2. Install synchro ring, needle bearing, 4th drive gear and 4th gear thrust washer. Install thrust washer with grooves toward 4th gear. Press ball bearing, 5th gear thrust washer and 5th needle bearing race onto shaft. Install thrust washer with grooves toward 5th gear.
  3. Install needle bearing, 5th drive gear, synchro ring, 5th hub and sleeve assembly, insert stopper plate and lock washer. Align groove in synchro ring with shifting insert. Ensure pawl of insert stopper plate fits into hole in boss section of 5th hub. Install and tighten lock nut to 83-91 ft. lbs. (12-24 N.m). Stake lock nut in 2 places.


  1. Install 3rd drive gear, outer synchro ring, synchro cone, inner synchro ring, and sleeve and hub assembly onto main shaft. Align groove on synchro ring with shifting insert. Press 4th needle bearing race onto shaft.
  2. Install 4th needle bearing race onto main shaft using press. Install synchro ring, needle bearing, 4th gear and thrust washer. Install thrust washer with grooves toward 4th gear. Press ball bearing, 5th gear thrust washer and 5th needle bearing race onto shaft. Install thrust washer with grooves toward 5th gear.
  3. Install bearing onto synchro cone. Install synchro ring and cone onto 5th-reverse sleeve and hub assembly. Install synchro cone stopper and snap ring to 5th-reverse sleeve and hub assembly. Install remaining parts to main shaft. Align groove in synchro ring with shifting insert. Ensure pawl of insert stopper plate fits into hole in boss section of 5th hub. Install and tighten lock nut to 83-91 ft. lbs. (12-24 N.m). Stake lock nut in 2 places.
