Test 5 - Inlet Solenoid Valve Problem

  1. Turn ignition off. Disconnect ABS hydraulic unit harness connector ABS1 and F9. See Figure. Check resistance between hydraulic unit connector terminals. See CHECKING SOLENOID VALVE CIRCUIT RESISTANCE table. Resistance should be 3.8-4.8 ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, replace hydraulic unit.
    CHECKING SOLENOID VALVE CIRCUIT RESISTANCE

    DTC (1) Terminals No.
    32 8 & 2
    34 5 & 2
    36 6 & 2
    38 7 & 2
    (1) First terminals listed are F9 connector terminals. Second terminals listed are ABS1 connector terminals.
  2. Check continuity between ground and hydraulic unit connector F9 terminals. See CHECKING SOLENOID VALVE FOR SHORT table. See Figure. Continuity should not exist. If continuity does not exist, go to next step. If continuity exists, replace hydraulic unit.
    CHECKING SOLENOID VALVE FOR SHORT

    DTC (1) Terminal No.
    32 8
    34 5
    36 6
    38 7
    (1) Terminals listed are hydraulic unit connector F9 terminals.
  3. Disconnect ABS control unit connector. Check voltage between ground and hydraulic unit connector F9 terminals. See CHECKING SOLENOID VALVE FOR SHORT table. If voltage exists, replace hydraulic unit. If voltage does not exist, turn ignition on and repeat test. If voltage exists, replace hydraulic unit. If voltage does not exist, go to next step.
  4. Turn ignition off. Check voltage between ground and ABS control unit connector terminals. See Figure. See CHECKING WIRING FOR SHORT table. If voltage exists, repair wiring. If voltage does not exist, turn ignition on and repeat test. If voltage exists, repair wiring. If voltage does not exist, go to next step.
    CHECKING WIRING FOR SHORT

    DTC (1) Terminal No.
    32 3
    34 51
    36 50
    38 4
    (1) Terminals listed are ABS control unit connector terminals.
  5. Turn ignition off. Check continuity between ground and ABS control unit connector terminals. See CHECKING WIRING FOR SHORT . If continuity exists, repair wiring. If continuity does not exist, go to next step.
  6. Reconnect hydraulic unit connector. Check resistance between ABS control unit connector terminals. See CHECKING WIRING table. If resistance is 4.3-5.3 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is not 4.3-5.3 ohms, repair wiring.
    CHECKING WIRING

    DTC (1) Terminals No.
    32 3 & 1
    34 51 & 1
    36 50 & 1
    38 4 & 1
    (1) Terminals listed are ABS control unit connector terminals.
  7. Check ABS control unit connector and hydraulic control unit connector contacts. Clean contacts as needed. If contacts are okay, go to next step.
  8. Reconnect all connectors. Erase memory. Recheck trouble codes. If same trouble code returns, replace ABS control unit. If other trouble codes exist, go to proper test procedure. If no trouble codes exist, problem was a temporary poor contact. Check harness and connectors.
