Cranking Test

  1. Ensure battery is fully charged. Connect voltmeter to battery terminals and ammeter to battery cables. Disable ignition system to prevent engine from starting.
  2. Crank engine for no more than 30 seconds. Note and record voltmeter reading (voltage drop) and ammeter reading (current draw). Average starter cranking voltage should exceed 8 volts, with a current draw of 200 amps or less.
