Starter Solenoid
- Ensure continuity exists between terminals "S" and "M". Continuity should exist between terminal "S" and ground. Continuity should not exist between terminals "M" and "B". If readings are not correct, replace solenoid.
- To check solenoid pull-in, connect one jumper lead from negative terminal of 12-volt battery to starter solenoid. Connect second jumper lead from negative terminal to terminal "C". See Fig 1. Pinion should extend when jumper from battery positive terminal is connected to solenoid terminal No. 50. To check solenoid hold-in, disconnect jumper wire from solenoid terminal "C" with pinion extended. Pinion should remain extended. See Fig 1.

- To check pinion gear return, connect one jumper wire from negative battery terminal to solenoid terminal No. 50 and second jumper wire from negative battery terminal to solenoid body. Connect positive jumper wire to terminal "C". Disconnect jumper wire from terminal No. 50. See Fig 2. Pinion should return immediately.
