Ignition Timing: 1.8L

  1. Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Disconnect and plug distributor vacuum hoses (except SPFI equipped models). Place transaxle in Neutral (man. trans.) or "P" (auto. trans.) position.
  2. On SPFI and MPFI (Turbo) engines confirm that idle switch is on and connect the test mode connector. On all engines, adjust idle speed and check ignition timing. Ignition timing marks are visible through opening in flywheel cover on right side of engine.
  3. If necessary, loosen distributor hold-down bolt and adjust ignition timing. Turn distributor clockwise to advance timing, turn distributor counterclockwise to retard timing. See Fig 1 .
