Bench Tests: Commutator

  1. Clean surface and polish with No. 400 sandpaper if required. If surface is scored, out of round or pitted, turn commutator in a lathe to restore surface. See COMMUTATOR CONCENTRIC SPECIFICATION  table. Dress in a lathe only enough to restore smooth concentric surface.

    Subaru 1600 .016" (.40 mm)
  2. Minimum diameter of commutator is 1.21" (30.7 mm) on Subaru 1600. Mica depth on all models should be 0.016-0.031" (.40-.80 mm). The minimum mica depth is .008" (.20 mm). If beyond minimum, undercut with a hacksaw blade to standard depth.
