Description & Operation
The electric fuel pump used on all models except the 1800 4WD Turbo is an electromagnetic plunger type pump. The fuel pump is located in the engine compartment.
The fuel pump on the 1800 4WD Turbo is a pin and roller type electric pump. The pump is equipped with an integral relief valve which is designed to relieve pressure at 61-71 psi (4.3-5.0 kg/cm2 ). A fuel damper is mounted on the end of the pump to reduce changes in the fuel pressure generated in the system.
On all models, the fuel pump is actuated when the ignition switch is in the "START" or "ON" position. A check valve, located on the fuel pump outlet, prevents fuel from returning to the fuel tank when the engine is turned off.
