Power Steering Pump: Inspection
- Ensure oil passage in front cover is not clogged. Inspect control valve and filter. Check valve for wear, burrs or damage to edges of groove. Slip valve into bore and check for smooth movement. Replace valve (if necessary).
- Pressure check control valve. Attach a hose to hex side of control valve. Submerge valve in steering fluid or solvent. Using no more than 3 psi (.21 kg/cm2 ), blow into hose and check for leakage.
- If leak is found, disassemble and clean valve. Replace any shims found during disassembly. Retest for leakage. Replace valve if leak persists. Note if valve has an identification mark to determine correct replacement valve.
