Location

The power electronics control unit (N129/1) is integrated in the high-voltage control unit box (N83).

Task

General

The power electronics control unit actuates the electric vehicle drive motor (M5) on request from the powertrain control unit (N127) with a 3-phase AC voltage. It monitors the temperature and position of the electrical machine and provides diagnoses and forecasts regarding the available torque to the powertrain control unit.

If the electric vehicle drive motor is operated in decel mode as an alternator, the power electronics control unit converts the induced AC voltage into a direct voltage and supplies the high voltage on-board electrical system over a 400 V busbar.

Coding

The power electronics control unit is flashable which means that the complete software in the control unit can be updated.

CAN bus

The power electronics control unit is connected via the electric drive CAN (CAN EL) to the vehicle's CAN network and exchanges data with other control units.

Input and output signals

The power electronics control unit evaluates the following input signals and issues the corresponding output signals:

Structure

The power electronics control unit consists of a plastic housing with three plug couplings and an internal control unit.

Voltage supply

The power electronics control unit is supplied with power by "circuit 30" and, with the ignition ON, by "circuit 15".
