TRANSMISSION 700.1 in MODEL 453
Manual transmission 700.1
General
The model 700.1. manual transmission is a fully-synchronized two-shaft transmission with five forward gears and one reverse gear, and it is intended for transverse installation in rear wheel-drive vehicles. The transmission housing consists of a light-metal alloy, the housing parts of which are sealed with a liquid gasket. The drive shaft is mounted in the transmission housing by means of a grooved ball bearing and a cylindrical roller bearing. The idler gears are mounted on needle roller bearings. The shafts are designed as hollow shafts for weight reduction, and mounted on tapered roller bearings. The axle is driven via the helically geared pinions and the spur gear in the differential. The differential is mounted by means of tapered roller bearings. The extremely tight production tolerances for the gear sets, coupling housing and transmission housing mean that the clearance on the shafts does not need to be adjusted. The 1st and 2nd gears are synchronized through double-cone synchronization, the 3rd, 4th and 5th gears by single-cone synchronization.
The manual transmission has the following features:
- Gear request transmitted by means of cables
- Hydraulically actuated central clutch release bearing for clutch operation
- Double-cone synchronization for transferring large friction forces when accelerating or decelerating the shifting wheels when changing gear (1st and 2nd gear)
- Bevel differential integrated in the transmission housing
- Non-contact position detection of the main shifter shaft (reverse gear, neutral position)
- Fuel-saving and rpm-reducing 5th gear (overdrive)
- Reversal of rotational direction without reversing gear
Manual transmission continues to provide the following advantages:
- Compact, small major assembly with lower weight
- Low maintenance costs through lifetime filling
- Precise and easy shifting ability
- Low driving noise
- High reliability and long service life
Precise and smooth shifting with short shift travels are achieved by the following measures:
- Transmission of gearshift lever travel by maintenance-free cables
- Double-cone synchronization in 1st and 2nd gear
- Single-cone synchronization in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear
The function description for the manual transmission is made up of the following partial functions:
- Transmission of shifting movement, function sequence Transmission of shifting movement, function sequence
The selection and shifting movement is transferred from the gearshift lever on the outer shift mechanism to the shift module in the transmission by means of a maintenance free shift cable.
