Remove/Install Airbag Unit On Steering Wheel - AR91.60-P-0660SR

  Risk of injury  caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units. Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100 °C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Place steering column in the central height position MODEL 453 with CODE J37 (Steering column)  
2 Disconnect ground line at the on-board electrical system battery   AR54.10-P-0003SR
3 Insert suitable tool into opening at markings (3) at left and right on steering wheel cover (4) and the push retaining clips (6) inward IMPORTANT The opening at the markings (3) of the steering wheel cover (4) must be pierced the first time the airbag unit on the steering wheel (1) is removed.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT : The retaining clips (6) of the airbag unit on the steering wheel (1) must latch audibly into the steering wheel (2).
 
4 Remove airbag unit on steering wheel (1) far enough from steering wheel (2) until electrical connector (5) is accessible    
5 Disconnect electrical connector (5) and remove airbag unit (1) from steering wheel (2) IMPORTANT If the airbag unit on the steering wheel (1) is replaced, the defective airbag unit (1) must be properly disposed of.  
6 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check

REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS
Connect diagnostic unit and check supplemental restraint system (SRS)   AD00.00-P-2000-06SR
