Location

The multifunction camera is under a cover at the top center of the windshield.

Task

The multifunction camera records pictures of the area in front of the vehicle. These pictures are processed and prepared by the integrated control unit and then used to implement the Lane Keeping Assist function. The microprocessor integrated in the multifunction camera controls the Lane Keeping Assist function. The tasks of the multifunction camera are divided into the following subfunctions:

Reception of input factors
Evaluation of input factors
Controlling functions
Transmission of initial parameters

Reception of input factors

The input factors are read in over the following connections:

Direct line
Interior CAN (CAN B)

Direct line

Terminal status of tml. 15g
Lane Keeping Assist button (S96)

Interior CAN

Vehicle speed
Turn signal indicator status

Evaluation of input factors

The input factors are evaluated by the microprocessor and the corresponding components are actuated.

Controlling functions

The multifunction camera controls the following functions:

Lane Keeping Assist (with code 238 (Lane Keeping Assist))

Transmission of initial parameters

The initial parameters are sent by the multifunction camera via the interior CAN. The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see appropriate block diagram or function schematic). Actuation of the status LED in the Lane Keeping Assist button takes place over a direct electrical line.

Structure

The multifunction camera consists of the following main components:

Camera
Intelligent control electronics (control unit)

The multifunction camera must be recalibrated after replacement of the multifunction camera or windshield.
