Activate Antitheft Alarm System, Function - GF80.50-P-2002KJ

MODEL 453.0/3/4

Function requirements, general

Activate antitheft alarm system (ATA [EDW]), general

The ATA is automatically activated with the CL when the vehicle is locked. Then the individual alarm inputs are monitored. The activated ATA is indicated by permanent flashing of the central locking indicator lamp (S6/1e3) in the inside door handle central locking switch (S6/1s2). The center SAM control unit (N10/10) activates the following partial ATA functions:

Function sequence for activating ATA [EDW]

The ATA is activated when the CL is locked. The center SAM control unit receives the status of the CL, then the ATA is activated. To acknowledge after successful activation, a short acknowledgement tone is output via the alarm signal horn (H3) (only with code V19 (anti-theft alarm)) or via the alarm siren (H3/1) (only with retrofitted ATA with interior protection).

IMPORTANT If a door or the liftgate is still open when locking the CL, after the locking attempt the vehicle is unlocked automatically and the ATA is not activated.

IMPORTANT Detailed information on locking the CL is given in the separate partial function "Central locking (CL), function".

Function sequence for activating alarm inputs

Function requirements:

Activating alarm input function comprises the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for monitoring switch

The status (open or closed) is checked cyclically for the following switches every 200 ms:

The center SAM control unit directly reads in the status of the individual central locking microswitch, trunk lid contact switch and ATA switch, battery and evaluates the status of all other alarm inputs. The alarm inputs are ready for alarm after approx. 10 s after closing.

Function sequence for activating tow-away protection (only with retrofitted ATA with interior protection and tow-away protection)

The tow-away protection (if not previously deselected for the next locking procedure) is activated t = 60 s after the CL is locked. The tow-away sensor (B33) determines are reference position, with which the relative vehicle inclination is compared during the activation. Determination of the reference position takes approx. t = 10 to 15 s. Therefore an alarm can only be triggered approx. t = 60 s after the ATA [EDW] is armed, at the earliest.

When the maximum vehicle inclination is exceeded with regard to the reference position, an alarm is triggered. If the vehicle inclination changes very slowly (e.g. leaky tire), the reference position adapts to the current vehicle position to prevent inadvertent activation of the inclination sensor. If the inclination sensor is erroneous, all other ATA components remain functionable and the corresponding fault codes are entered into the fault memory of the ATA control unit (N26) or center SAM control unit. The center SAM control unit communicates via the alarm system LIN (LIN B14) with the ATA control unit or tow-away sensor.

Function sequence for activating interior protection (only with retrofitted ATA with interior protection)

IMPORTANT The interior protection can be deactivated by extensively pressing on the lock button on the transmitter key (A8/1) when the vehicle is closed. On model 453.0/3 the vehicle interior can be monitored via the ultrasonic sensor, ATA (B39/2) and ultrasonic sensor 2, ATA (B39/9) by the ATA control unit. On model 453.4 the vehicle interior is monitored by microwaves via the interior protection sensor 1 (B44/5) and interior protection sensor 2 (B44/6). The interior protection (if not previously deselected for the next locking procedure) is activated t = 10 s after the CL is locked. After another 10 s, the interior protection is read for alarm, because it is necessary for the ATA to first calibrate to vehicle interior. If a defect is detected, the remaining ATA functions are still ensured regardless of this error. The corresponding fault codes are entered into the fault memory of the ATA control unit or center SAM control unit.

Function sequence for activating alarm siren (only with retrofitted ATA with interior protection)

The alarm siren (H3/1) is armed together with the ATA and checked cyclically approx. every 600 ms by the center SAM control unit.

IMPORTANT Deactivating ATA: The ATA is deactivated completely when opening the CL with transmitter key via radio.
