Location
The center SAM control unit is located in middle of instrument panel below the climate control and operating unit (N23) (on vehicles with code I77 (Manual A/C system) or code I78 (Heating system)). With code I01 (Automatic climate control) and with code 453.091/391/491, the center SAM control unit is located under the climate control operating unit (N20).

Reading in of sensors and signals
The input factors are read in over the following connections:
- Direct line
- Interior CAN (CAN B)
Direct line
The signals from the following components are read via a direct line:
- Transponder coil (L11)
- Front passenger door central locking microswitch (M14/5s1)
- Driver door central locking microswitch (M14/6s1)
- Liftgate central locking microswitch (M14/7s1) (only model 453.0/3)
- Left rear central locking microswitch (M14/8s1), (model 453.0 only)
- Right rear central locking microswitch (M14/9s1), (model 453.0 only)
- Climate control and operating unit (N23) (model 453 (except model 453.091/391/491) with code 177 (Manual A/C system) or code 178 (Heating system))
- Combination switch (S4)
- Windshield wiper system switch (S4/4)
- Instrument panel switch group (S6/1)
- Economy mode switch (S6/10)
- Brake lights switch (S9/1)

Evaluation of input factors
The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.
