Location 

The head/thoraxbag sensors are installed in the left and right B-pillars beneath the automatic belt retractors.

Task 

The head/thoraxbag sensors determine the acceleration value in the area of the B-pillar for the left or right side of the vehicle. The restraint systems control unit (N2/7) makes the decision whether to deploy the head/thoraxbags based on these values.

After a successful self-test the head/thoraxbag sensors continuously transmit a signal to the restraint systems control unit.
