Starter Signal Circuit [05/2013 - 01/2014]: Procedure

  1. CHECK IF VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH SMART KEY SYSTEM 
    1. Confirm the vehicle specifications.
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      w/o Smart Key System A
      w/ Smart Key System B

    B → See step   14 

    A: Go to next step 

  2. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Starter Signal.
    5. Read the value.

      OK

      Ignition Switch Position Starter Signal
      ON Close (Starter signal OFF)
      START Open (Starter signal ON)

    NG → See step   3 

    OK → See step   19 

  3. CHECK ST RELAY (POWER SOURCE) 
    1. Remove the ST relay from the No. 3 relay block.

    2. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 2 - Body ground Engine cranking 11 to 14 V

      HINT: 

      The engine does not crank because the relay is not installed.

      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      OK A
      NG (for Manual Transaxle) B
      NG (for Automatic Transaxle) C

  4. INSPECT ST RELAY 
    1. Inspect the starter relay (ST). Refer to ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION [05/2013 - ] - Step 1 .

    NG → REPLACE ST RELAY 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Remove the ST relay from the No. 3 relay block.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 1 - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      OK (for Manual Transaxle) A
      OK (for Automatic Transaxle) B
      NG C

    B → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) 

    C → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - BODY GROUND) 

    A → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ECM - CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH) 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH) 
    1. Remove the ST relay from the No. 3 relay block.
    2. Disconnect the clutch pedal switch (for clutch start system) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 2 - A4-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      ST relay terminal 2 or A4-1 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  7. INSPECT CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY (FOR CLUTCH START SYSTEM) 
    1. Inspect the clutch pedal switch assembly. Refer to INSPECTION [05/2013 - ] .

    NG → See step   20 

    OK: Go to next step 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH - IGNITION SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the clutch pedal switch (for clutch start system) connector.
    2. Disconnect the ignition switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A4-2 - C5-1 (ST1) Always Below 1 Ω
      A4-2 or C5-1 (ST1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH - IGNITION SWITCH) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  9. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the ignition switch connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      All terminals Off 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (AM1) - 1 (ST1) START Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Ignition Switch Assembly)

    NG → See step   21 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IGNITION SWITCH - BATTERY) 

  10. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) 
    1. Remove the ST relay from the No. 3 relay block.
    2. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      ST relay terminal 2 - B14-9 Always Below 1 Ω
      ST relay terminal 2 or B14-9 - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ST RELAY - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  11. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly. Refer to INSPECTION [05/2013 - ] .

    NG → See step   22 

    OK: Go to next step 

  12. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - IGNITION SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ignition switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B14-4 - C5-1 (ST1) Always Below 1 Ω
      B14-4 or C5-1 (ST1) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - IGNITION SWITCH) 

    OK: Go to next step 

  13. INSPECT IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the ignition switch connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      All terminals Off 10 kΩ or higher
      2 (AM1) - 1 (ST1) START Below 1 Ω
      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *a Component without harness connected
      (Ignition Switch Assembly)

    NG → See step   23 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (IGNITION SWITCH - BATTERY) 

  14. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (STARTER SIGNAL) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Data List / Starter Signal.
    5. Read the value.

      OK

      Ignition Switch Position Starter Signal
      ON Close (Starter signal OFF)
      START Open (Starter signal ON)
      RESULT

      Result Proceed to
      OK A
      NG (for Automatic Transaxle) B
      NG (for Manual Transaxle) C

  15. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly. Refer to INSPECTION [05/2013 - ] .

    NG → See step   25 

    OK: Go to next step 

  16. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      B14-9 - A35-48 (STA) Always Below 1 Ω
      B14-9 or A35-48 (STA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   27 

  17. INSPECT CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY (FOR CLUTCH START SYSTEM) 
    1. Inspect the clutch pedal switch assembly (for clutch start system). Refer to INSPECTION [05/2013 - ] .

    NG → See step   24 

    OK: Go to next step 

  18. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Disconnect the clutch pedal switch (for clutch start system) connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      A4-1 - A35-48 (STA) Always Below 1 Ω
      A4-1 or A35-48 (STA) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → See step   28 

  19. PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [05/2013 - 01/2014] 
  20. REPLACE CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY (FOR CLUTCH START SYSTEM). Refer to  REMOVAL [05/2013 - 01/2014] 
  21. REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [05/2013 - ] 
  22. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [05/2013 - 01/2014] 
  23. REPLACE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [05/2013 - ] 
  24. REPLACE CLUTCH PEDAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY (FOR CLUTCH START SYSTEM). Refer to  REMOVAL [05/2013 - 01/2014] 
  25. REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [05/2013 - 01/2014] 
  26. PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE. Refer to  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE [05/2013 - 01/2014] 
  27. GO TO SMART KEY SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [05/2013 - 01/2014] 
  28. GO TO SMART KEY SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [05/2013 - 01/2014]
