Steering Column Assembly: Removal: Removal
WARNING:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing
Refer to PRECAUTION .
- POSITION FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL WARNING:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
- REMOVE STEERING PAD . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 2
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY
- Fully extend and tilt up the steering wheel.
- Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut.
- Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and the steering main shaft.
- Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable.
- Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly.

NOTE:Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (center bolt) before use.

- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN LOWER COVER
- Remove the 3 screws, disengage the 2 claws, release the tilt lever and remove the steering column lower cover.
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN UPPER COVER
- Disengage the claw and remove the steering column upper cover.
- REMOVE COMBINATION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
- Disconnect all connectors from the turn signal switch with spiral cable.
- Use pliers to hold the clamp and raise the claw with a screwdriver. Remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.
- SEPARATE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP RH . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 4
- SEPARATE FRONT DOOR OPENING TRIM WEATHERSTRIP LH . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 5
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH RH . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 35
- REMOVE FRONT PILLAR GARNISH LH . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 36
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 2
- REMOVE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 3
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH CENTER PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 10
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FINISH PANEL RETAINER . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 11
- REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR ASSEMBLY . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 12
- REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 13
- DISCONNECT POWER STEERING ECU

- Detach the power steering motor harness and torque sensor wire harness clamps from the power steering ECU side.
- Disconnect the 2 steering column assembly connectors from the power steering ECU.
- REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 10
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER TRAY . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 19
- REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB REINFORCEMENT

- Remove the 2 bolts and remove the instrument panel sub reinforcement.
- REMOVE COLUMN HOLE COVER SILENCER SHEET
- Pull back the floor carpet, remove the 2 clips and remove the column hole cover silencer sheet.
- REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY

- Loosen bolt A.
- Place matchmarks on the steering intermediate assembly and steering gear assembly.
- Remove bolt B and detach the steering intermediate assembly from the steering gear assembly.
- Place matchmarks on the steering intermediate assembly and steering column assembly.
- Remove bolt C and detach the steering intermediate shaft assembly from the steering column assembly.
- REMOVE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER PUSH ROD CLEVIS . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 8
- REMOVE BRAKE PEDAL SUPPORT . Refer to REMOVAL - Step 9
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY
- Disconnect all connectors and detach all wire harness clamps from the steering column assembly.
- Remove the 3 bolts and remove the steering column assembly from the instrument panel reinforcement assembly.
