Intermediate Shaft: Inspection: Inspection

  1. INSPECT REVERSE CLUTCH DISC 
    1. Check whether the sliding surfaces of the discs, plates and flanges are worn or burnt.

      If necessary, replace them.

      NOTE:
      • If the lining of any disc is peeling off or discolored, or even if a part of the printed mark is defaced, replace all the discs.
      • Before assembling new discs, soak them in Toyota Genuine ATF WS or equivalent for at least 15 minutes.
  2. INSPECT DIRECT CLUTCH DISC 
    1. Check whether the sliding surfaces of the discs, plates and flanges are worn or burnt.

      If necessary, replace them.

      NOTE:
      • If the lining of any disc is peeling off or discolored, or even if a part of the printed mark is defaced, replace all the discs.
      • Before assembling new discs, soak them in Toyota Genuine ATF WS or equivalent for at least 15 minutes.
  3. INSPECT DIRECT CLUTCH RETURN SPRING SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using vernier calipers, measure the free length of the spring together with the spring seat.

      Standard free length

      31.7 mm (1.2480 in.)

  4. INSPECT DIRECT CLUTCH PISTON SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Shake the direct clutch pin and confirm that the check ball is not stuck.

    2. Apply low pressure compressed air to the check ball and confirm that there is no air leakage.
  5. INSPECT INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Shake the direct clutch pin and confirm that the check ball is not stuck.

    2. Apply low pressure compressed air to the check ball and confirm that there is air leakage.
