Back Door Glass: Installation: Installation

  1. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS SPACER

      NOTE:
      • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.
      • Throw away any leftover primer.
      • Do not apply too much primer.
    1. Apply Primer G to the window where the 2 spacers will be installed.

      HINT: 

      If an area that is not specified is coated by accident, wipe off the primer with a clean piece of cloth before it dries.

    2. Remove the peeling paper from a new spacer. Install the spacer to the back door glass at the location shown in the illustration.

  2. INSTALL WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE DAM 
    1. Using a brush or sponge, coat the application area of a new window glass adhesive dam with Primer G.
      NOTE:
      • Do not apply too much primer.
      • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.
      • Do not keep any of the opened Primer G for later use.
      • Install the new adhesive dam along the ceramic notches.

      HINT: 

      If an area that is not specified is coated by accident, wipe off the primer with a clean piece of cloth before it dries.

    2. Remove the peeling paper from a new dam. Install the dam to the back door glass at the location shown in the illustration.

      HINT: 

      Position one end of the adhesive dam in place as shown in the illustration, install the dam to the glass, and then cut it so that it is the appropriate size.

  3. INSTALL BACK DOOR GLASS 
    1. Position the glass.

    3. Using suction cups, place the glass in the correct position.

    4. Check that the whole contact surface of the glass rim is perfectly even.
    5. Using suction cups, remove the glass.
    6. Using a brush, coat the installation surface on the vehicle body with Primer M.

      NOTE:
      • Do not coat the adhesive with Primer M.
      • Do not apply too much primer.
      • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.
      • Do not keep any of the opened Primer M for later use.

    7. Using a brush or sponge, coat the adhesive application area with Primer G.

      NOTE:

    8. Apply adhesive to the glass.

      Adhesive

      Toyota Genuine Windshield Glass Adhesive or equivalent

      1. Cut off the tip of a cartridge nozzle as shown in the illustration.

        HINT: 

        After cutting off the tip, use all adhesive within the time described in the table below.

        Usage Time Frame

        Temperature Usage Time frame
        35°C (95°F) 15 minutes
        20°C (68°F) 1 hour and 40 minutes
        5°C (41°F) 8 hours
      2. Load a sealer gun with the cartridge.
      3. Coat the glass with adhesive as shown in the illustration.

    9. Install the back door glass assembly.

        NOTE:

        Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.

      1. Using suction cups, position the glass so that the reference marks are aligned and press it in gently along the rim.

      2. Lightly press the front surface of the back door glass to ensure a close fit.

        HINT: 

        Press the glass with a force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) or more.

      3. Apply non-residue solvent to a clean cloth and wipe off any excess or protruding adhesive.

        HINT: 

        Apply adhesive to any areas where the amount of adhesive is inadequate.

        NOTE:

        Do not drive the vehicle within the time written in the table below.

        Minimum Time

        Temperature Minimum Time Prior to Driving Vehicle
        35°C (95°F) 1 hour 30 minutes
        20°C (68°F) 5 hours
        5°C (41°F) 24 hours
      4. Hold the back door glass using protective tape until the applied adhesive becomes hard.
        NOTE:

        Do not drive the vehicle for the time described in the table below.

        Minimum Time

        35°C (95°F) 1 hour and 30 minutes
        20°C (68°F) 5 hours
        5°C (41°F) 24 hours
    10. Connect the defogger connectors.
  4. INSPECT FOR LEAKS AND REPAIR 
    1. After the adhesive has hardened, apply water from the outside of the vehicle. Check that no water leaks into the cabin.
    2. If water leaks into the cabin, allow the water to dry and add adhesive.
    3. Remove the protective tape.
  5. INSTALL REAR WASHER NOZZLE (w/ Rear Wiper)  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 1
  6. INSTALL REAR WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY (w/ Rear Wiper)  . Refer to INSTALLATION - Step 4
  7. INSTALL BACK DOOR TRIM BOARD ASSEMBLY  . Refer to REASSEMBLY - Step 19
  8. INSTALL BACK DOOR SIDE GARNISH LH  . Refer to REASSEMBLY - Step 20
  9. INSTALL BACK DOOR SIDE GARNISH RH  . Refer to REASSEMBLY - Step 21
  10. INSTALL BACK DOOR CENTER GARNISH  . Refer to REASSEMBLY - Step 23
