Quarter Window Glass: Installation: Installation

HINT: 

  1. INSTALL QUARTER WINDOW MOULDING LH

      NOTE:
      • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.
      • Throw away any leftover primer.
      • Do not apply too much primer.
    1. Using a brush or sponge, coat the application area of the quarter window with Primer G.

      HINT: 

      If the primer is applied to an area that is not specified, apply non-residue solvent to a clean cloth and wipe off the excess primer before it dries.

      NOTE:
      • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.
      • Throw away any leftover primer.
      • Do not apply too much primer.
    3. Using a brush or sponge, coat the application area of a new quarter window moulding with Primer M.

      HINT: 

      If the primer is applied to an area that is not specified, apply non-residue solvent to a clean cloth and wipe off the excess primer before it dries.

    5. Apply adhesive to the quarter window moulding.

      Adhesive

      Toyota Genuine Windshield Glass Adhesive or equivalent

      TEXT IN ILLUSTRATION

      *1 Adhesive
      1. Cut off the tip of a cartridge nozzle.

        HINT: 

        After cutting off the tip, use all adhesive within the time written in the table below.

        Usage Time Frame

        Temperature Usage Time Frame
        35°C (95°F) 15 minutes
        20°C (68°F) 1 hour 40 minutes
        5°C (41°F) 8 hours
      2. Load a sealer gun with the cartridge.
      3. Apply adhesive to the quarter window moulding as shown in the illustration.

    7. Install the quarter window moulding as shown in the illustration.

    9. Apply non-residue solvent to a clean cloth and wipe off any excess or protruding adhesive.
  2. INSTALL QUARTER WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE DAM LH 
    1. Apply Primer G to the window where the dam will be installed.

      NOTE:
      • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.
      • Throw away any leftover primer.
      • Do not apply too much primer.

      HINT: 

      If the primer is applied to an area that is not specified, apply non-residue solvent to a clean cloth and wipe off the excess primer before it dries.

    2. Remove the peeling paper from a new adhesive dam. Install the dam to the quarter window at the location shown in the illustration.
  3. INSTALL QUARTER WINDOW CLIP LH 
    1. Apply Primer G to the quarter window where the clip will be installed.

      NOTE:

    2. Remove the peeling paper from a new clip. Install the clip to the quarter window at the location shown in the illustration.
  4. INSTALL QUARTER WINDOW CLIP 
    1. Apply Primer G to the quarter window where the clip will be installed.

      NOTE:

    2. Remove the peeling paper from a new clip. Install the clip to the quarter window at the location shown in the illustration.
  5. INSTALL QUARTER WINDOW ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. When installing a new quarter window assembly:

      HINT: 

      Dam not reused.

      1. Apply Primer G to the window where the dam will be installed.

        NOTE:

        HINT: 

        If the primer is applied to an area that is not specified, apply non-residue solvent to a clean cloth and wipe off the excess primer before it dries.

      2. Remove the peeling paper from a new adhesive dam. Install the dam to the quarter window at the location shown in the illustration.
      3. Remove the peeling paper from a new double-sided tape.

      NOTE:
      • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.
      • Throw away any leftover primer.
      • Do not apply too much primer.
    3. Using a brush or sponge, apply primer M to the exposed part of the vehicle body.

    4. Using a brush or sponge, apply Primer G to the contact surface of the glass.

      b 19.0 mm (0.748 in.)

      e 10.0 mm (0.394 in.)

      HINT: 

      If primer is applied to an area that is not specified, wipe off the primer with non-residue solvent before it dries.

      NOTE:
      • Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.
      • Throw away any leftover primer.
      • Do not apply too much primer.
    5. Apply adhesive to the quarter window glass.

      Adhesive

      Toyota Genuine Windshield Glass Adhesive or equivalent

      1. Cut off the tip of a cartridge nozzle as shown in the illustration.

        Standard

        a 12.0 mm (0.472 in.)
        b 8.0 mm (0.315 in.)
        c 17.8 mm (0.701 in.)
        d 16.0 mm (0.630 in.)
        e 9.9 mm (0.390 in.)
        f 10.0 mm (0.394 in.)

        HINT: 

        After cutting off the tip, use all adhesive within the time written in the table below.

      2. Load a sealer gun with the cartridge.
      3. Apply adhesive to the quarter window glass as shown in the illustration.
    6. Install the quarter window glass to the vehicle body.
      1. Hold the quarter window glass in place securely with protective tape or equivalent until the adhesive hardens.
        NOTE:
        • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.
        • Check the clearance between the body and glass.
      2. Lightly press the front surface of the glass to ensure a close fit.
      3. Apply non-residue solvent to a clean cloth and wipe off any excess or protruding adhesive.

        HINT: 

        Apply adhesive to any areas where the amount of adhesive is inadequate.

        NOTE:

        Do not drive the vehicle within the time written in the table below.

        Minimum Time

        35°C (95°F) 1 hour 30 minutes
        20°C (68°F) 5 hours
        5°C (41°F) 24 hours
  6. CHECK FOR LEAKS AND REPAIR 
    1. Conduct a leak test after the adhesive has completely hardened.
    2. Seal any leaks with auto glass sealer.

    1. Install the rear seat assembly. Refer to INSTALLATION .

  23. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected. Refer to INITIALIZATION .
