Front Axle Hub: Installation

HINT:

  1. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the front disc brake dust cover onto the steering knuckle.
    2. Install the axle hub with the 4 bolts.

      Torque: 96 N*m (979 kgf*cm, 71 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Do not place the hub and bearing's magnet rotor side so that it is facing downward, and do not allow the magnet rotor side to become damaged or contact foreign matter.
  2. INSTALL FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Align the matchmarks and install the front drive shaft assembly onto the front axle hub sub-assembly.

    2. Install the steering knuckle with the front axle assembly onto the front shock absorber with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

      Torque: 240 N*m (2447 kgf*cm, 177 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE:
      • Only when reusing the bolts and nuts, apply a small amount of engine oil to the threads of the nuts.
      • Be careful not do damage the drive shaft boot and speed sensor rotor.
  3. INSTALL FRONT LOWER NO. 1 SUSPENSION ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Connect the lower arm to the ball joint with the bolt and 2 nuts.

      Torque: 89 N*m (908 kgf*cm, 66 ft.*lbf)

  4. INSTALL FRONT DISC  (See INSTALLATION )
  5. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Install the front disc brake caliper assembly onto the steering knuckle with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 107 N*m (1090 kgf*cm, 79 ft.*lbf)

  6. INSTALL TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION )
  7. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB NUT 
    1. Clean the threaded parts on the driveshaft and axle hub nut using a non-residue solvent.
      NOTE:
      • Be sure to perform this work for a new driveshaft.
      • Keep the threaded parts free of oil and foreign objects.
    2. Using a socket wrench (30 mm), install a new axle hub nut.

      Torque: 216 N*m (2203 kgf*cm, 160 ft.*lbf) 

      HINT:

      Stake the nut after inspecting for looseness and runout in the following steps.

    3. Using a chisel and hammer, stake the axle hub nut.

  8. SEPARATE FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )
  9. REMOVE FRONT DISC  (See REMOVAL )
  10. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING LOOSENESS  (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  )
  11. INSPECT FRONT AXLE HUB RUNOUT  (See ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION  )
  12. INSTALL FRONT DISC  (See INSTALLATION )
  13. INSTALL FRONT DISC BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLY  (See INSTALLATION  )
  14. INSTALL FRONT SPEED SENSOR

    1. Install the flexible hose bracket and the speed sensor harness bracket onto the shock absorber with bolt A.

      Torque: 29 N*m (296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf) 

      NOTE: Bolt A tightens the flexible hose bracket and speed sensor harness bracket together. Make sure that the flexible hose bracket is positioned over the speed sensor harness bracket.
    2. Install the flexible hose bracket to the steering knuckle with bolt B.

      Torque: 29 N*m (296 kgf*cm, 21 ft.*lbf)

    3. Install the front speed sensor to the steering knuckle with the bolt.

      Torque: 8.5 N*m (87 kgf*cm, 75 in.*lbf) 

  15. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL 

    Torque: 103 N*m (1050 kgf*cm, 76 ft.*lbf) 

  16. INSPECT AND ADJUST FRONT WHEEL ALIGNMENT 
    1. Inspect and adjust the front wheel alignment (See ADJUSTMENT ).
  17. CHECK VSC SENSOR SIGNAL 

    (See TEST MODE PROCEDURE )
