Automatic Transaxle Assembly: Removal

  1. PLACE FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  2. SECURE STEERING WHEEL  (See REMOVAL )
  3. REMOVE COLUMN HOLE COVER SILENCER SHEET  (See REMOVAL )
  4. SEPARATE NO. 2 STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  5. SEPARATE NO. 1 STEERING COLUMN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  6. REMOVE BATTERY  (See REMOVAL )
  7. REMOVE HOOD SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  8. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 
  9. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID 
    1. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF.
    2. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

      Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf) 

  10. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER 
  11. REMOVE CENTER TRANSMISSION UNDER COVER ASSEMBLY 
  12. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER LH 
  13. REMOVE REAR ENGINE UNDER COVER RH 
  14. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER 
  15. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER ARM COVER  (See REMOVAL )
  16. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY LH  (See REMOVAL )
  17. REMOVE FRONT WIPER ARM AND BLADE ASSEMBLY RH  (See REMOVAL )
  18. REMOVE HOOD TO COWL TOP SEAL  (See REMOVAL )
  19. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER RH  (See REMOVAL )
  20. REMOVE COWL TOP VENTILATOR LOUVER LH  (See REMOVAL )
  21. REMOVE FRONT WIPER MOTOR AND LINK  (See REMOVAL )
  22. REMOVE OUTER COWL TOP PANEL 
    1. Disengage the wiper motor harness clamp.
    2. Remove the 10 bolts and outer cowl top panel.
  23. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

  24. REMOVE NO. 2 BATTERY CARRIER 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and No. 2 battery carrier.

  25. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  26. REMOVE AIR CLEANER FILTER ELEMENT SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the air cleaner filter element from the air cleaner case.
  27. REMOVE AIR CLEANER CASE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and air cleaner case sub-assembly.
  28. DISCONNECT CONNECTORS 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the transmission wire connector.
    3. Disconnect the speed sensor NT connector.
    4. Disconnect the speed sensor NC connector.

  29. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS 
    1. Remove the bolt and separate the engine wire clamp from the automatic transaxle assembly.

    2. Disconnect the clamp and separate the engine wire.

  30. DISCONNECT NO. 3 ENGINE WIRE 
    1. Remove the bolt and separate the No. 3 engine wire.
    2. Disconnect the No. 3 engine wire clamp.

  31. SEPARATE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the nut and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the control shaft lever.
    2. Remove the clip and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the transmission control cable bracket.

    3. Remove the bolt and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly.

    4. Remove the bolt and disconnect the transmission control cable assembly from the rear engine mounting insulator.

  32. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  33. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY 

    HINT:

    See the steps from "REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB NUT LH" through "FIX FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY" ( REMOVAL ).

  34. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts, gasket and separate the front exhaust pipe assembly from the center exhaust pipe assembly.

    3. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 compression springs and remove the front exhaust pipe assembly.

  35. DISCONNECT NO. 2 OIL COOLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and separate the No. 2 oil cooler tube sub-assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.
    2. Disconnect the 2 oil cooler hoses from the 2 oil cooler tube unions.

  36. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH AND DRIVE PLATE SET BOLT 
    1. Remove the flywheel housing under cover.
    2. Remove the 6 torque converter clutch set bolts while holding the crankshaft pulley bolt with a wrench.

  37. SUSPEND ENGINE ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  38. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REINFORCEMENT LH 
    1. Remove the 4 bolts and front suspension member reinforcement LH.

  39. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REINFORCEMENT RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  40. REMOVE FRONT CROSS MEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 6 bolts and front crossmember.

  41. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REAR BRACE LH 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and front suspension member rear brace LH.
  42. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION MEMBER REAR BRACE RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedure as for the LH side.

  43. REMOVE FRONT SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Support the front suspension crossmember with a transmission jack.
    2. Remove the 4 bolts, 2 nuts, and front suspension crossmember sub-assembly.

  44. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Support the automatic transaxle assembly with the transmission jack.
  45. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR LH 
    1. Remove the bolt and nut.

    2. Remove the 4 bolts and engine mounting insulator LH.

  46. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 5 bolts.

    2. Remove the 4 lower side mounting bolts.

    3. Remove the automatic transaxle assembly.
  47. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the torque converter clutch assembly from the automatic transaxle assembly.
  48. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the bolt, nut and front engine mounting insulator.

  49. REMOVE FRONT ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and the front engine mounting bracket.

  50. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the bolt, nut and rear engine mounting insulator.

  51. REMOVE REAR ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and the rear engine mounting bracket.

  52. REMOVE ENGINE MOUNTING BRACKET LH 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and the engine mounting bracket LH.

  53. REMOVE NO. 1 TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and the transmission control cable bracket.

  54. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL LEVEL GAUGE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the oil level gauge sub-assembly from the oil filler tube sub-assembly.
  55. REMOVE TRANSMISSION OIL FILLER TUBE SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and remove the oil filler tube sub-assembly.
    2. Remove the O-ring from the oil filler tube sub-assembly.

  56. REMOVE SPEEDOMETER DRIVEN HOLE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and remove the speedometer driven hole cover sub-assembly.
    2. Remove the O-ring from the speedometer driven hole cover sub-assembly.
