Ignition Switch: Removal

CAUTION: Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing the steering column (See PRECAUTION ).
  1. TURN FRONT WHEELS TO FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD 
  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  3. REMOVE STEERING PAD  (See REMOVAL )
  4. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )
  5. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (for Lower Side) 
    NOTE: Removing the steering column cover in the incorrect order will cause the steering column cover to break.
    1. Push the right and left sides of the steering column cove, and disengage the 4 claws.

    2. Insert fingers into the opening of the tilt lever of the steering column cover to disengage the claw.

      HINT:

      Spread the claw to disengage it.

    3. Turn the steering column cover to disengage the 2 claws and remove the steering column cover as shown in the illustration.

  6. REMOVE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the 2 connectors and remove the wire harness clamp.

    2. Remove the 2 screws and remove the ignition switch assembly.
