Ignition Switch: Removal
CAUTION:
Some of these service operations affect the SRS airbag system. Read the precautionary notices concerning the SRS airbag system before servicing the steering column (See
PRECAUTION
).
- TURN FRONT WHEELS TO FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
- REMOVE STEERING PAD (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (for Lower Side) NOTE: Removing the steering column cover in the incorrect order will cause the steering column cover to break.
- Push the right and left sides of the steering column cove, and disengage the 4 claws.
- Insert fingers into the opening of the tilt lever of the steering column cover to disengage the claw.
HINT:
Spread the claw to disengage it.
- Turn the steering column cover to disengage the 2 claws and remove the steering column cover as shown in the illustration.
- REMOVE IGNITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY
- Disconnect the 2 connectors and remove the wire harness clamp.
- Remove the 2 screws and remove the ignition switch assembly.
