Valve Body Assembly: Removal

  1. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  2. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER LH 
  3. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE FLUID 
    1. Remove the drain plug and gasket, and drain the ATF.
    2. Install a new gasket and the drain plug.

      Torque: 49 N*m (500 kgf*cm, 36 ft.*lbf) 

  4. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 18 bolts, oil pan and gasket.
      NOTE: Some fluid will remain in the oil pan. Remove all of the oil pan bolts, and carefully remove the oil pan assembly. Discard the gasket.

    2. Remove the 2 magnets from the oil pan.

    3. Examine the particles in the oil pan.

      1. Collect any steel chips with the removed magnets. Look at the chips and particles in the oil pan and on the magnets carefully to see the type of wear which might be found in the transaxle.

        Steel (magnetic): bearing, gear and plate wear 

        Brass (non-magnetic): bearing wear 

  5. DISCONNECT TRANSMISSION WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the 5 solenoid valve connectors.

    3. Remove the bolt and lock plate, and separate the ATF temperature sensor.
  6. REMOVE VALVE BODY OIL STRAINER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and oil strainer.
      NOTE: Be careful as some fluid will come out of the oil strainer.

    2. Remove the O-ring from the oil strainer.

  7. REMOVE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY ASSEMBLY 
    1. Support the valve body, and remove the 17 bolts and valve body.
      NOTE: Be careful not to drop the check ball body and spring.

    2. Remove the check ball body and spring.

    3. Remove the 5 bolts, 3 plates and 5 shift solenoid valves.
