Front Axle Hub: Removal

HINT:

  1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 
  2. DISCONNECT FRONT STABILIZER LINK ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the nut, and disconnect the stabilizer link assembly.

      HINT:

      If the ball joint turns together with the nut, use a 6 mm hexagon wrench to hold the stud in place.

  3. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB NUT 
    1. Using SST and a hammer, unstake the staked part of the nut.

      SST 09930-00010 

      NOTE: Loosen the staked part of the nut completely, otherwise the screw of the drive shaft may be damaged.
    2. While applying the brakes, remove the lock axle hub nut.

  4. DISCONNECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR 
    1. Remove the bolt, and disconnect the speed sensor wire and flexible hose from the shock absorber.

      HINT:

      Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.

    2. Remove the bolt, and separate the speed sensor front from the steering knuckle.
      NOTE:
      • Be careful not to damage the speed sensor.
      • Prevent foreign matter from attaching to the speed sensor.

  5. DISCONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and disconnect the disc brake caliper from the steering knuckle.
      NOTE:
      • Use a string or equivalent to keep the brake caliper from hanging down by the flexible hose.
      • The friction surface of the pad and disc must be free from oil, grease and paint.

  6. REMOVE FRONT DISC 
    NOTE: There should be no oil or grease on the friction surface of the pad and disc.
  7. DISCONNECT TIE ROD END SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the cotter pin and nut.
    2. Using SST, disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.

  8. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 1 SUSPENSION LOWER ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the bolt and 2 nuts, and disconnect the suspension lower arm from the lower ball joint.

  9. REMOVE FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY 
    1. Using a plastic-faced hammer, disconnect the drive shaft from the axle hub.
      NOTE: Be careful not to damage the boot and speed sensor rotor.

    2. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts and steering knuckle from the shock absorber.

  10. REMOVE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the cotter pin and nut.
    2. Using SST, remove the ball joint.

      SST 09628-62011

  11. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB HOLE SNAP RING 
    1. Using snap ring pliers, remove the hole snap ring.

  12. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Hold the steering knuckle lightly in a soft vise.
      NOTE: Do not overtighten the vise.
    2. Using SST, remove the axle hub.

    3. Using SST, remove the bearing inner race (outside) from the axle hub.

      SST 09950-40011 (09951-04020, 09952-04010, 09953-04030, 09954-04010, 09955-04061, 09957-04010, 09958-04011), 09950-60010 (09951-00370)

  13. REMOVE FRONT DISC BRAKE DUST COVER 
    1. Remove the 3 bolts and front disc brake dust cover from the steering knuckle.
  14. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB BEARING 
    1. Place the bearing inner race (outside) on the axle hub bearing.
    2. Using SST and a press, press out the axle hub bearing from the steering knuckle.

      SST 09223-15020, 09950-60020 (09951 -00720), 09950-70010 (09951 -07100, 09387-02010)
