Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION) 
    1. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    3. Measure voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      HARNESS AND CONNECTOR STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      2 - Body ground 10 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (OUTPUT SIGNAL) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    2. Measure voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard voltage 

      HARNESS AND CONNECTOR STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      4 - Body ground 10 to 14 V

    NG: Go to step   8

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  3. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY 
    1. Measure resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard resistance 

      PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS

      Shift Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      P 2 - 6 and 4 - 5 Below 1 Ω
      Except P 10 kΩ or higher
      R 2-1 Below 1 Ω
      Except R 10 kΩ or higher
      N 2 - 9 and 4 - 5 Below 1 Ω
      Except N 10 kΩ or higher
      D and 3 2-7 Below 1 Ω
      Except D and 3 10 kΩ or higher
      2 2-3 Below 1 Ω
      Except 2 10 kΩ or higher
      L 2-8 Below 1 Ω
      Except L 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Connect the park/neutral position switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connectors.
    3. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard voltage 

      HARNESS AND CONNECTOR STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS

      Shift Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      R E5-11 (R) - Body ground 10 to 14 V*
      Except R Below 1 V
      D and 3 E5-21 (D) - Body ground 10 to 14 V
      Except D and 3 Below 1 V
      2 E5-10 (2) - Body ground 10 to 14 V
      Except 2 Below 1 V
      L E5-9 (L) - Body ground 10 to 14 V
      Except L Below 1 V
      HINT: *: The voltage will drop slightly due to lighting up of the back up light.

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU) 
    1. Disconnect the connector of shift lock control ECU sub-assembly.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard voltage 

      HARNESS AND CONNECTOR STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS

      Shift Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      D and 3 9 - Body ground 10 to 14 V
      Except D and 3 Below 1 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  6. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard resistance 

      SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS

      Shift Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      3 and 2 3-9 Below 1 Ω
      Except 3 and 2 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPLACE SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP 

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SHIFT LOCK CONTROL ECU SUB-ASSEMBLY ECM) 

    Standard voltage 

    1. Connect the connector of shift lock control ECU sub-assembly.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position, and measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below when the shift lever is moved to each position.

      Standard voltage 

      HARNESS AND CONNECTOR STANDARD VOLTAGE SPECIFICATIONS

      Shift Position Tester Connection Specified Condition
      3 E5-19 (3) - Body ground 10 to 14 V
      Except 3 Below 1 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE ECM 

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH - ECM) 
    1. Turn the ignition switch off.
    2. Disconnect the ECM connectors.
    3. Measure resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance (Check for open) 

      HARNESS AND CONNECTOR STANDARD RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS (Check for open)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      P1-4 (B) - E4-30 (NSW) Below 1 Ω

      Standard resistance (Check for short) 

      TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION (Check for short)

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      P1-4 (B) or E4-30 (NSW) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: REPLACE ECM
