Lower Instrument Panel: Removal

  1. BOLT, SCREW AND NUT TABLE 

    HINT:

    All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet code in the table below.

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
  3. REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the upper instrument panel (see REMOVAL  ).
  4. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL PAD ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  5. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  6. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  7. REMOVE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  8. REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  ) 
  9. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Detach the 7 claws and remove the console upper rear panel.

  10. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the connector.
    2. Remove the console box carpet.

    3. Manual transaxle:

      Remove the 2 screws.

    4. Automatic transaxle:

      Remove the 4 screws.

    5. Remove the 2 bolts.
    6. Remove the clamp and console box, and disconnect the connector.

  11. REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the driver side knee airbag (see REMOVAL ).
  12. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Detach the 2 claws.
    2. Remove the instrument panel under cover, as shown in the illustration.

  13. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH 
    1. Detach the 12 claws and remove the front door scuff plate.

  14. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

  15. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 
    1. Remove the clip.
    2. Remove the 2 clips and cowl side trim.

  16. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH 

    HINT:

    Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.

  17. REMOVE NO. 2 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT 
    1. Remove the 3 clips, and No. 2 heater to register duct.

  18. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY 
    1. Disconnect the hood lock control cable.
    2. Remove the 3 screws, 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
    3. Remove the 2 clips.
    4. Detach the 7 wire harness clamps.
    5. Disconnect the 3 connectors.
    6. Pull the lower instrument panel toward the rear of the vehicle, and check that the wire harnesses are not caught, and then remove the lower instrument panel.
