Lower Instrument Panel: Removal
- BOLT, SCREW AND NUT TABLE
HINT:
All bolts, screws and nuts relevant to installing and removing the instrument panel are shown along with their alphabet code in the table below.
- DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.
- REMOVE UPPER INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Remove the upper instrument panel (see REMOVAL ).
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL PAD ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE HEADLIGHT DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE WINDSHIELD WIPER SWITCH ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )
- REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Detach the 7 claws and remove the console upper rear panel.
- REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
- Disconnect the connector.
- Remove the console box carpet.
- Manual transaxle:
Remove the 2 screws.
- Automatic transaxle:
Remove the 4 screws.
- Remove the 2 bolts.
- Remove the clamp and console box, and disconnect the connector.
- REMOVE DRIVER SIDE KNEE AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
- Remove the driver side knee airbag (see REMOVAL ).
- REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL UNDER COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY
- Detach the 2 claws.
- Remove the instrument panel under cover, as shown in the illustration.
- REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE LH
- Detach the 12 claws and remove the front door scuff plate.
- REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATE RH
HINT:
Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
- REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY LH
- Remove the clip.
- Remove the 2 clips and cowl side trim.
- REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIM SUB-ASSEMBLY RH
HINT:
Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side.
- REMOVE NO. 2 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
- Remove the 3 clips, and No. 2 heater to register duct.
- REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL ASSEMBLY
- Disconnect the hood lock control cable.
- Remove the 3 screws, 2 bolts and 2 nuts.
- Remove the 2 clips.
- Detach the 7 wire harness clamps.
- Disconnect the 3 connectors.
- Pull the lower instrument panel toward the rear of the vehicle, and check that the wire harnesses are not caught, and then remove the lower instrument panel.
