Inspection Procedure

HINT:

  1. CHECK POWER STEERING OIL PRESSURE SENSOR 
    1. Connect a hand-held tester or OBD II scan tool to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the tester or scan tool ON.
    3. Start the engine.
    4. On the tester, select the following menu items: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / ALL / PS SIGNAL.
    5. Read the value displayed on the tester.
    6. If using an OBD II scan tool, refer to the instruction manual .

      OK: 

      POWER STEERING OIL PRESSURE SENSOR CONDITION

      Conditions Power steering oil pressure sensor
      Steering wheel lock ON
      In an idle OFF
    1. OK: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS (See  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS  ) 
    2. NG: Go to next step. 
  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - POWER STEERING OIL PRESSURE SENSOR) 
    1. Disconnect the E5 and E6 ECM connectors.
    2. Disconnect the P1 power steering oil pressure sensor connector.
    3. Check the resistance.

      Standard (Check for open): 

      ECM - POWER STEERING OIL PRESSURE SENSOR (CHECK FOR OPEN)

      Specified Tester Connections Conditions
      VOUT (P1-2) - PSP (E6-29) Below 1 Ω
      VC (P1-3) - VC (E5-18)
      GND (P1-1) - E2 (E5-28)

      Standard (Check for short): 

      ECM - POWER STEERING OIL PRESSURE SENSOR (CHECK FOR SHORT)

      Tester Connections Specified Conditions
      VOUT (P1-2) or PSP (E6-29) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher
      GND (P1-1) or E2 (E5-28) - Body around

    4. Reconnect the power steering oil pressure sensor connector.
    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: REPLACE POWER STEERING OIL PRESSURE SENSOR
