Inspection Procedure

  1. CHECK INDICATOR LAMP (See  DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM   ) 
    1. Check that all of the following conditions for not illuminating the brake warning light are satisfied.
      1. The ABS warning light is off.
      2. The amount of the brake fluid is between the Min. line and Max. line of the brake master cylinder reservoir.
      3. The parking brake pedal is fully released.
    1. NEXT 
  2. CHECK DTC FOR ABS 
    1. Check if the DTCs are recorded.
    1. NO : Go to step   3 
    2. YES : REPAIR CIRCUIT INDICATED BY OUTPUT CODE (See  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TABLE   ) 
  3. INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT 

    WHEN USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Start the engine.
    3. Select the "BRAKE WARN LIGHT" in the ACTIVE TEST and operate the BRAKE warning light by the hand-held tester.
    4. Check that "ON" and "OFF" of the BRAKE warning light can be shown on the combination meter with the hand-held tester.
      BRAKE WARNING LIGHT TEST

      Item Vehicle Condition/Test Details Diagnostic Note
      BRAKE WARN LIGHT Turns BRAKE warning light on/off Observe combination meter

      Standard: 

      Turn the BRAKE warning light ON or OFF in accordance with the hand-held tester. 

    WHEN NOT USING HAND-HELD TESTER: 

    1. Turn the ignition switch OFF and disconnect the connector from the skid control ECU.
    2. Use a service wire, connect terminal BRL (32) to GND1 (2) of skid control ECU harness side connector.
    3. In the same way, use the service wire to connect terminal BRL (32) to GND2 (24) of skid control ECU harness side connector.
    4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.

    5. Check the brake warning light goes off.

      Standard: Turn the light ON or OFF in accordance with the connecting condition of the terminal GND and BRL. 

    1. NG : Go to step   4 
    2. OK : REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  ) 
  4. INSPECT PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Remove the parking brake switch.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      PARKING BRAKE SWITCH RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      P4-1 - Ground part Released 1 Ω or less
      P4-1 - Ground part Pushed in 10 kΩ or higher

    1. NG : REPLACE PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSY 
    2. OK : GO TO NEXT STEP 
  5. CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - PARKING BRAKE SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the skid control ECU connector and the parking brake switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
      SKID CONTROL ECU AND PARKING BRAKE SWITCH CONNECTOR RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      PKB (S1-18) - PKB (P4-1) 1 Ω or less
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
      SKID CONTROL ECU - BODY GROUND RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      PKB (S1-18) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK : GO TO NEXT STEP 
  6. INSPECT BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH 
    1. Remove the reservoir tank cap and strainer.
    2. Disconnect the brake fluid level warning switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH CONNECTOR RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      (B2-1) - (B2-2) Float UP 10 kΩ or higher
      (B2-1) - (B2-2) Float DOWN 1 Ω or less

    1. NG : REPLACE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH 
    2. OK : GO TO NEXT STEP 
  7. CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH - COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Disconnect the combination meter connector and the brake fluid level warning switch connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      COMBINATION METER AND BRAKE FLUID LEVEL WARNING SWITCH CONNECTOR RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      (C11-15) - (B2-1) 1 Ω or less
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      COMBINATION METER - BODY GROUND RESISTANCE SPECIFICATION

      Tester Connection Specified Condition
      (C11-15) - Body ground 10 kΩ or higher

    1. NG : REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK : REPLACE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSY (See  REPLACEMENT  )
