Transmission Control Cable ASSY (MTM): Replacement

HINT:

COMPONENTS: See FLOOR SHIFT SHIFT LEVER ASSY (MTM) 

1. REMOVE SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY (SEE  INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER  ) 
2. REMOVE CONSOLE PANEL UPPER (SEE  INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER  ) 
3. REMOVE CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSY (see  INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER  ) 
4. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSY REAR (SEE  INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER  ) 
5. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONER UNIT ASSY (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
6. REMOVE AIR BAG SENSOR ASSY CENTER (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
7. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE ASSY (SEE  REMOVAL & INSTALLATION AND DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY  ) 
8. REMOVE FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1 
9. SEPARATE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY 
   1. Remove the 2 clips and separate the cable ends of the control cable assy.

   2. Release the cable locks of the shift cable and select cable using a screwdriver.

   3. Turn the lock nuts 180 degrees counterclockwise, and hold them to remove the shift cable and select cable.
   4. Remove the shift cable from the floor shift lever assy while holding the lock nut.
   5. Repeat the above process for the select cable.
   NOTE: Do not push in the cable locks.

10. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY 
    1. Remove the 2 clips and 2 washers, and separate the top ends of the control cable assy from the transaxle.
    2. Remove the 2 clips, and separate the control cable assy from the control cable bracket.

    3. Remove the 2 nuts and clamp from the body.
    4. Remove the clamp from the control cable assy.

    5. Remove the 2 bolts from the retainer.
    6. Pull out the control cable assy from the floor.

11. INSTALL TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY 
    1. Install the control cable assy with the 2 nuts.
       1. Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf)

    2. Install the clamp to the control cable assy.
    3. Install the clamp to the body with the 2 nuts.
       1. Torque: 5.0 N.m (51 kgf.cm, 44 in.lbf)

    4. Connect the control cable assy to the control cable bracket, and install 2 new clips.
    5. Connect the control cable assy to the transaxle, and install the 2 washers and 2 clips.

12. CONNECT TRANSMISSION CONTROL CABLE ASSY 
    1. Connect the ends of the control cable assy and install the 2 clips to the shift lever assy.

    2. Turn the lock nuts of the shift cable 270 degrees counterclockwise, and hold them.
    3. Install the shift cable while holding the lock nuts.
    4. Check that the cables are installed securely.

    5. Push in the cable locks of the shift cable and select cable.

13. INSTALL FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR NO.1 
    1. Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf.cm, 49 in.lbf) 
14. INSTALL EXHAUST PIPE ASSY (SEE  REMOVAL & INSTALLATION AND DISASSEMBLY & REASSEMBLY  ) 
15. INSTALL AIR BAG SENSOR ASSY CENTER (SEE  REPLACEMENT  ) 
16. INSTALL AIR CONDITIONER UNIT ASSY (SEE  OVERHAUL  ) 
17. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX ASSY REAR (see  INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER  ) 
18. INSTALL CONSOLE UPPER REAR PANEL SUB-ASSY (see  INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER  ) 
19. INSTALL CONSOLE PANEL UPPER (see  INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER  ) 
20. INSTALL SHIFT LEVER KNOB SUB-ASSY (see  INSTRUMENT PANEL SUB-ASSY LOWER  )
