Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Saturn Aura. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the rear seat audio (RSA) controller.
  2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 5 ohms between the ground circuit terminal B6 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  3. Ignition ON, test for 9.8-10.2 volts between the voltage reference circuit terminal A8 and ground.
    • If less than the specified range, test the voltage reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the voltage reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  4. Radio ON, RSA ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the audio enable signal circuit terminal B5 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  5. Radio OFF, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the audio enable signal circuit terminal B5 and ground.
    • If the test lamp illuminates, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the radio.
  6. Ignition OFF, connect the X1 harness connector at the radio and the harness connector at the RSA controller.
  7. Disconnect the X2 harness connector at the radio.
  8. Ignition ON, RSA OFF, radio OFF, verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the radio control circuit terminal 13 and ground.
    • If the test lamp illuminates, test the control circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RSA controller.
  9. Ignition ON, radio ON, RSA ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the radio control circuit terminal 13 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the control circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the RSA controller.
  10. If all circuits test normal, replace the rear seat audio controller.
