Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2008 Cadillac DTS. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: Before disconnecting the harness connector at the VDAAW module, ensure that the ignition has been OFF for at least 120 seconds. Failure to do so may result in component damage.
  1. Ignition OFF for 120 seconds, disconnect the harness connector at the VDAAW module.
  2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ voltage circuit terminal 2 and ground.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ voltage circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal and the B+ circuit fuse is open, test the B+ voltage circuit for a short to ground.
  3. Ignition OFF, check for less than 1.0 ohm between the ground circuit terminal 4 and ground.
    • If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for a short to voltage or open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition OFF for 120 seconds, connect the harness connector at the VDAAW module and disconnect the harness connector at the headlamp switch.
  5. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool Mode Switch parameter is Inactive.
    • If not the specified value, test the switch signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the VDAAW module.
  6. Install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the switch signal circuit terminal 6 and the B+ voltage circuit. Verify the scan tool Mode Switch parameter is Active.
    • If not the specified value, test the switch signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the VDAAW module.
  7. Verify the scan tool Mode LED parameter is OFF.
    • If not the specified value, test the indicator signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the VDAAW module.
  8. Install a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the indicator signal circuit terminal 5 and the B+ voltage circuit. Verify the scan tool Mode LED parameter is ON.
    • If not the specified value, test the indicator signal circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the VDAAW module.
  9. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the headlamp switch.
