Installation Procedure

    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice .
  1. Install the tie rod outer linkage to the steering gear.

    Tighten:  Tighten to 90 N.m (67 lb ft).

    • Clean the rack thread and coat with locking compound.
    • Install the tie rod to the rack with KM-6004-2  (1). See Special Tools .

      Counterhold with an open-ended wrench (2) on the toothed rack flat (arrow).

  2. Install the boot or boots. Refer to Rack and Pinion Boot Replacement .
  3. Install the corresponding tie rod end. Refer to Rack and Pinion Outer Tie Rod End Replacement .
  4. Inspect the straight-ahead position, adjust if necessary. Refer to Straight Ahead Inspection .
  5. Inspect the toe-in, adjust if necessary. Refer to Front Toe Adjustment .
