Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2004 Saturn Ion Red Line, 2004 Saturn Ion 3, 2004 Saturn Ion 2, and 2004 Saturn Ion 1. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
    IMPORTANT: Do not tip the battery more than 40 degrees during battery installation.
    NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
  1. Install the battery to the battery tray.
  2. Install the battery brace (2) and the brace bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the battery brace bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  3. Install the battery hold down retainer (1) and bolt.

    Tighten:  Tighten the battery hold down retainer bolt to 18 N.m (13 lb ft).

  5. Connect the battery vent assembly.
  6. Connect the positive battery cable bolt (1).

    Tighten:  Tighten the battery positive cable terminal bolt to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).

  7. Connect the negative battery cable bolt (2). Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure .
