Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2007 Saturn Ion Red Line, 2007 Saturn Ion 3, and 2007 Saturn Ion 2. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
IMPORTANT: Verify the DTC is current before performing this diagnostic

W/O Amplifier

  1. Test the suspect audio output signal circuit from the radio to the speakers for an open short to ground or short to power.
    • If all circuits test normal, replace the radio.

With Amplifier

  1. Disconnect the amplifier harness connector containing the audio output signal circuits (from the radio).
  2. Turn ON and operate the radio. Center the fade and balance adjustments on the radio.
  3. At the amplifier harness connector, With a DMM verify there is 5-6 volts across all of the (-) and (+) audio output signal circuits (from the radio).
    • If the voltage is not within the specified range on one or more audio input signal circuits test/repair short to B+, short to ground, open on the suspect audio output signal circuits or replace the radio.
