Diagnostic Procedures

  1. Did you perform the Engine Electrical Diagnostic System Check? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK - ENGINE ELECTRICAL  .
  2. Start engine, observe the charge indicator on the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) or message in the Driver Information Center (DIC). Does the charge indicator illuminate or the DIC display a charging system message? If yes, go to next step. If no, problem is intermittent.
  3. Turn OFF the ignition. Connect the Red lead of the Charging And Starting System Tester (SA9154Z-A) to the battery positive terminal. Connect the Gray lead of the tester to the output circuit of the generator. Start engine. Turn on the tester. Turn Off all vehicle accessories Off. Follow the tester's prompts. Press CHARGING SYSTEM TEST. Is the voltage displayed within 13.0-15.5 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step  5 .
  4. Is the generator output current greater than or equal to the load test value as specified? See GENERATOR SPECIFICATIONS  . If yes, go to step  6 . If no, go to next step.
  5. Replace generator. See GENERATOR  in REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After replacing generator, go to next step.
  6. Operate vehicle in order to verify the repair. Did you correct the condition? If yes, generator is okay. If no, go to step  2 .
