Camshaft Position Sensor

NOTE: The ignition system does not use a conventional Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor that detects valve train position. The Ignition Control Module (ICM) detects when cylinder No. 1 or 3 has fired on the cylinder's compression stroke using sensing circuitry integrated within each coil. This system is called compression sense ignition.

A malfunction in Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor circuit can set a DTC. For testing procedures and specifications, perform related DTC testing procedure. See SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - 2.2L SATURN "L" SERIES article.
