Removal Procedure

CAUTION: Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which the components are being removed.

  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  2. Remove the rear wheel and the tire assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector.

    NOTE: The outer drive axle joint has a speed sensor ring. Be careful not to damage this ring when performing service operations near knuckle and drive axle. Never pry against the speed sensor ring. Even minor scratching of speed sensor ring may result in a loss of ABS operation.
  5. Remove the wheel speed sensor to bracket TORX® head bolt.
  6. Remove the wheel speed sensor.
  7. NOTE: Wheel speed sensor bracket uses a locating pin on the steering knuckle. Be careful not to break the pin when removing the bracket.
  8. Remove the wheel speed sensor bracket to the steering knuckle bolt.
