Checking Fluid Levels

WARNING: Ensure vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned on the hoist. To help avoid personal injury when a vehicle is on a hoist, provide additional support for the vehicle on the opposite end from which components are being removed. If the transaxle fluid is hot, caution must be taken to prevent personal injury in the event transaxle fluid does drain from the level plug hole after the plug is removed.
  1. Raise and support vehicle. The vehicle must be level. Remove fluid level check and fill plug (2). See Fig 1 . Check fluid level. The fluid level should be even with the bottom of fill plug hole.
  2. NOTE: It will be necessary to use a funnel with a flexible hose or a hand pump to add fluid to transaxle.
  3. If fluid level is low, add appropriate fluid to fill plug hole until fluid starts to drain out. See RECOMMENDED FLUIDS  . Allow fluid to finish draining from plug hole.
  4. Apply thread sealant (P/N 21485278) to fill plug and install. Wipe any excess fluid from transaxle with a rag or shop towel. Tighten fluid level check and fill plug to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
