Fuel Rail & Injectors: Installation

  1. Lubricate the new injector upper "O" ring seal with clean engine oil. Install the new injector "O" ring seal on the injector. Install retainer clip on the injector. Push the fuel injector into the fuel rail injector socket with the electrical connector facing outward. The retainer clip locks on to a flange on the fuel rail injector socket.
  2. With injectors pointing downward, lower the fuel line end of the fuel rail into cylinder head ports. Rotate the injectors into a horizontal position. Align injectors with their respective port holes. Carefully push fuel injectors into holes making sure they have seated in cylinder head.
  3. Install fuel rail attaching bolts. Tighten the fuel rail attaching bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Connect fuel injector electrical connectors. Push connector in until a click is heard and pull back to insure engagement. Connect PCV valve hose and connect vacuum line to fuel pressure regulator. Make sure they are fully seated.
  4. Lubricate with clean engine oil the male fuel feed line and male fuel return line connections. Attach the fuel feed line and pull back to confirm engagement. Attach the fuel return line and pull back to confirm engagement. Connect negative battery terminal. Tighten negative battery terminal bolt to specification.
  5. Prime fuel system. Cycle ignition On for 5 seconds, and then Off for 10 seconds. Repeat ignition cycle 2 more times. Crank engine until it starts (maximum starter motor cranking time is 20 seconds).
  6. If engine does not start, repeat step  5 . If engine starts, allow engine to idle and check system for leaks. Install air tube and air filter cover.


  1. Lubricate new fuel injector "O" rings with clean engine oil. Install new fuel injector "O" rings onto fuel injectors. Install new retainer clips onto fuel rail prior to installing fuel injectors to fuel rail. Install fuel injector assembly into fuel rail with fuel injectors electrical socket facing upward. Press injector into fuel rail until it clicks into retainer clip.
  2. Rotate injectors so that they are perpendicular to fuel rail. Install fuel rail assembly to intake manifold. Connect fuel pressure regulator vacuum line. Install fuel rail bolts. Tighten fuel rail bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
    3. CAUTION: Replace plastic fuel line retainers whenever fuel supply lines are disconnected at fuel filter and fuel rail. Install new retainer into female portion of connection. Care must be taken to assure that locking tab is centered in window of female connection. Firmly press male and female portions together until a click noise is heard, then pull firmly back to confirm engagement.
  3. Connect fuel injector electrical connectors. Connect fuel line quick-connects. Install intake plenum. See AIR INDUCTION SYSTEMS  . Crank engine for a few seconds. Turn off engine if it starts. Inspect for fuel leaks.
